The Excellence in Detector and Instrumentation Technologies (EDIT) Schools are an established series of international training events dedicated to young researchers – graduate students and early-career postdocs – who want to deepen their knowledge of detector technologies and instrumentation for particle physics.
Rotating between Europe, Asia, and North America, the EDIT Schools offer participants a unique combination of academic courses and hands-on laboratories. This dual approach not only introduces a broad spectrum of detector technologies and experimental methods but also enables participants to gain practical experience in operating these systems. For many, EDIT is the first opportunity to explore technologies outside their immediate field of research, a perspective that often sparks innovation in R&D and data analysis.
In 2026, CERN will host the next EDIT School, marking 15 years since the inaugural edition. The programme will feature an ambitious mix of core lectures, keynote contributions, and laboratory sessions, designed to provide both depth and breadth of training.
