Dear Colleagues,
Run 2 of the LHC is now officially underway, with first collisions recorded at the record energy of 13 TeV on 3rd June. I would like to congratulate everyone on the hard work throughout the long shutdown, which has brought the experiments and accelerator back to physics operation in excellent shape.
The only current concern is the CMS experiment’s magnet, which was kept off while some contamination of its cryogenic system was investigated, but that problem is now understood and is expected to be fixed soon.
For this issue of the newsletter we have articles on the Data Quality Monitoring of the LHC experiments, as well as on the opening of access to their data from Run 1. Amongst other stories you can find details of the irradiation facilities that are now operation, plus developments in electronics for NA62 and CMS, as well as in computing.
I wish you pleasant reading,
