My name is Adil JUEID, I'm a student in the second year of my Master studies in theoretical physics in Mohamed V university in Rabat. I took my decision to apply for CERN's summer students programme after meeting a physicist duing an International Conference in HEP. The meeting was held in Morocco last year and during our discussion he metioned CERN's summer student program that is open to students from around the world. From our discussion it came out that I could learn many new things and that it might be an interesting experience before starting my PhD.
During my MSc programme I had learnt many new things but I have mainly focused in the search for new physics that might be found by studying the Higgs self-couplings. It is the first time I am taking part to CERN's research activities and I am really proud about it.
My project as a summer student is to study and model the uncertainties of electrons, photons and positrons coming from the annihilation of Dark Matter into jets using Monte Carlo event generators. I worked in writing my own code trying to understand the physics behind the plots.
It is the firs time I am using Monte Carlo events generators and I can't say that I was very familiar with them. However, I learn more thatn I expected and that is very nice. I wanted to spend more time in research here at CERN as a user and i will apply for several institutes in Europe in order to have a PhD position.
Of course during my stay as a summer student I also had the chance to visit some cities like Lausanne and Montreux. Switzerland is a beautiful country and I would like to see more places. The
most beautiful thing that I will always remember is the research environment; for me it is one of the most important reasons and a key to success.
