My name is Sarah Hallaj and I am from Lebanon. My fascination with physics began very early on, and soon enough I learned about CERN and what fascinating and mind-blowing experiments were taking place in this organization. My eyes would twinkle with joy every time I read an article published or a post shared by CERN- all of which I reposted and shared on my social media accounts because why wouldn't I?! Reading the email stating that I was accepted to the Non Member State summer program accelerated my heart rate to almost as fast as the protons in the LHC. My bachelor's is in electrical engineering, and I had the honor and pleasure to work for the CMS experiment where, aside from fulfilling my dream of posing inside the majestic detector, I got to work on an inspection robot that should be able to roam the detector cavern and live stream video when the beam is on. I also participated in the lecture program which hosted extremely talented and interesting lecturers. CERN provided such a unique work space with a highly energetic, passion driven environment.
During my stay I luckily got to volunteer in several events, which were not only fruitful and fun, but also educational and rewarding.Through these events I got to meet marvellous people who had something to add to my knowledge, skills, talents, and interests. This summer program was a truly life changing experience. I profoundly cherish every moment I spent at CERN. I am beyond grateful and thankful for the team behind this program, it is through them that I was able to fulfill my dream, connect with like-mined amazing people from all around the globe, form friendships that I will always hold dear in my heart, sharpen my skills and gain new ones, and take pictures in the underground detectors.
I came back home extremely motivated to share my CERN experience, very eager to demonstrate to everyone how to create a cloud chamber, and vastly looking forward to visiting CERN again.
