Search engines for metadata in ATLAS

How did you decide to apply for the summer student programme?

I was a DESY summer student last year(2012) and that's when I first heard about the CERN summer student. It sounded like a great experience working at CERN and hence I decided to apply.

What is your previous background?

I had worked on AHCAL for ALICE before. My personal interest is cross-platormed(CPU-GPU) and large-scaled computation and simulation. It's my first time in CERN, and I'm really looking forward to working here some time in the future.

Tell us a few words about your project.

I didn't have a chance to "choose" my subject. I just chose the computation/data processing category and was assigned to DDM lab in ATLAS group. My main objective is to find out better search engines for metadata. Which is crucial when LHC is switched on in the future. The amount of data will be 10 times more than it is now. We have to find out a better way to manage the data.

Welcome to CERN!

Is your experience so far close to what you were expecting?

Yeah! It's the most exciting place I have ever been in my entire life.

Would you like to spend more time at CERN continuing with your research?

Definitely yes. I really want to work in the simulation group. I'm pretty good at that.

Did you have time to visit/travel outside CERN?

Yes. I've been to paris and mountain Julia. They're so great.

From my time as a summer student at CERN I will certainly remember...

Almost everything. Everything is exciting.
