I am from China and stduy in the University of science and technology of China. Last year ,I saw the information about applying for summer students at CERN in the web of my university. My major is particle physic, so my supervisor and other teachers helped me achieve the chance .Before I came here, I just study the knowledge about particle and do some simple research about lepton produced by the collision between electron and positron in BEPCII which is a collider.

At CERN, I am working in the LHCb group, on the research about B physic and search the CP violation. I just measure the detector acceptance. First,I need choose a decay and measure the MC truth and reconstruction of the decay. Second, I research the change of production angle following the transverse moment. From the above results, we can calculate the detector acceptance. The detector acceptance make a big contribution on the measurement of production cross section.

The experience make a huge influence on my future work. Just as my expecting, first going through the tutorial, then practice it in real code, then use my own things to analysis the data, meeting supervisor few times a week to report my work progress and to get further instruction. My supervisor is a very good teacher to help me finish my work.

Before I arrived at CERN, I have contact with my supervisor. He told me my task and give me some advice. So I read some papers about the direction and study method to deal with some codes.  

I would like to spend more time on my research. But I must go back and study more knowledge.

Maybe in the future I will return and still do my research if I have a chance. CERN is a good place where I can achieve more information.

The summer in Swiss is much better than that in China, for the temperature in China at this time is about 37 centigrade. It is comfortable. In comparison, the summer here is really cool and I enjoyed it very much. During the weekend, we could go to outside the see the scene of Europe. Things are very different from China, people here are few, we don’t have to squeeze in the bus, the buildings here are short, the cars here will wait for people. In Geneva, I saw the people celebrate the festival and hold the music party in a whole street.

I will never forget my supervisor. He is so nice and warmhearted. I am so fortunate. Of course, I’ve learned a lot in this summer, for example, code writing, some methods to do the analysis and so on. The people here are also very attractive. As a Chinese, I will remeber the cold food and chips here forever, so I, with another Chinese fellow, went to Carrefour to buy the food to cook for ourselves. Thank you very much.
