I'm a Masters student in Physics and Astronomy from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, and this autumn I will start my last year of studies. I have been working with the ASACUSA group, with Chloe Malbrunot as supervisor, simulating the deexcitation of (anti)hydrogen.
How did you decide to apply for the summer student programme?
I heard about it through various sources, mostly friends, lecturers and supervisors. I haven't been at CERN before, but I have a keen interest in physics.
Tell us a few words about your project.
I'm currently working on simulating the deexcitation of (anti)hydrogen atoms in a detector for the ASACUSA experiment.
This is important, since it is needed to accurately calculate how the (anti)hydrogen atoms will behave in the detector, which potentially has large impact on the entire experiment.
Is your experience so far close to what you were expecting?
It's hard to say what I was expecting. Work was probably more or less as I thought it would be. I haven't been able to visit CMS/ATLAS or any other LHC experiments yet.
From my time as a summer student at CERN I will certainly remember...
I have been up to lots of stuff, I think the single place I spent most time outside of CERN is at the gym at Balexert. But there are things going on all the time with the summer students.
