CERN Accelerating science

Simulating a detector for iOS/Android devices.

How did you decide to apply for the summer student programme?

I knew about CERN's summer program long time ago. Actually, I was planning to apply for it last year. However, for a certain reason, I decided to apply for the CERN's program in 2013.

The HEP  game team that participated with 2 games in this years Webfest.

What is your previous background?

No, I've never been in CERN before, and I wasn't familiar with my project at all. However, I started to learn more about my project since the first day I was here. I am a double major student (Electrical engineering and physics student), but my project was supposed to be for a computer science student. It was about programming on iOS platforms using Objective-C and XCode. So, that was quite challenging. However, I learned a lot from this project, and I hope to complete it before its deadline, and I want to make it as perfect as possible.

Tell us a few words about your project.

I'm working in a shared-project between LHCb and ATLAS to create a detector simulation for iOS/Android devices. The main purpose of this simulation is to educate people about how the detector works, and teaches them about particle physics.

Is your experience so far close to what you were expecting?

No, it wasn't even close to what I were expecting. It was a lot better!!!! Everything here is awesome. All people here are very friendly, and the working environment is really impressive!

From my time as a summer student at CERN I will certainly remember...

From my time as a summer student at CERN I will remember everything I've done here, especially CERN's Webfest. This Webfest was only for 2 days, and yet, I have made a lot of friends in that time.
Although we didn't win Webfest, it was really a good experience that I will not forget.
